THE united states of america

Just in time for independence day! Phew...this was A LOT of maps. Have you been to every state in the US? I have most certainly not. I'm a West Coast gal having been born in British Columbia, Canada. I moved to California as a teen and have lived here ever since except for a 4 year stint in Oregon. I have traveled to Idaho, Arizona, Hawaii and Louisiana (many years ago) but that's it! I actually love to travel but just haven't done that much in the US. The United States is so big and so varied I've always been interested in how regional differences have been a part of people's identities here. Also, just thinking and listening to people's stories during this strange time in the modern history the US has been quite eye-opening. I know we will come out the other side of this pandemic one way or another without a doubt, it will leave a mark. This coloring book is very much not about any of that. It's maps (which I love!) and birds, flowers, animals and insects. My filler shapes are cute little trees with some mountains. I like the balance of these big shapes (the symbols) and the little, simple trees as filler. It makes for an interesting looking map. I had a hard time learning all the state capitals when I moved to US and could have really used this coloring book! It was really fun to illustrate. Below are some sample pages (first 6 alphabetical) to give you an idea of the flavor of the book.
Happy Coloring Friends!

The jackalope

Welcome to the magical world of the Jackalope! I have always loved the idea of a hybrid rabbit creature roaming the Southwest. My favorite version is the Pixar short "Boundin'" about a Jackalope that is encouraging to creatures down on their luck (specifically a shorn sheep). The moral is to never feel bad about yourself. The Jackalope in this film is a somewhat goofy character which is very different than traditional versions which are darker and the Jackalope is a troublemaker of sorts. My version of the Jackalope is a magical, mischievous and solitary. They watch over plants and small animals in pristine areas. They travel quickly through the wild on enchanted feet and commune with other magical animals (like the unicorn). Twenty-five illustrations are included that are simple enough for a younger colorer but also fun for anyone. If you love Jackalopes as much as I do I hope you enjoy this artwork! Happy Coloring!

The plant parent

2/17/2020

My newest book! Was I inspired by all the houseplant instagrams and cute new plants available everywhere? Absolutely Yes. I have always had a few indoor plants around but it's hard not to get bitten by the plant bug when everyone is talking about how much they enhance your environment. I think it's true though I'm still getting into the habit of the care and feeding :). That said, I felt inspired to create a houseplant coloring book but to also make it helpful for the "plant parent" by adding some info about each plant to the page. I think it's really cute and actually illustrating and coloring has made me learn my plant babies names. I think this book would make a fabulous gift (with a plant!).
